Pakistan’s fragile democratically elected government just completed 100 days on the treasurary benches of the parliament amid criticism and nothing to show for the last 100 days in office. Big promises were made to the expectant population of the country before the elections, the promise of change, the promise of a better tomorrow to the future generations, the promise of stability and security, most of all the promise of good governance and honesty to a people long deprived of basic rights and necessities. Yet this government like all the previous governments has betrayed the nation by not learning from their pasts, and continuing to do what they and others have done before them.dscf0302_LMBdP_16003

Both the major political parties in government were given a mandate by the people of Pakistan to restore a crippled Judiciary, make living affordable for the poor, and fix the crumbling infrastructure of the country, yet in the last 100 days we have seen no results from this government which has an almost 2/3 majority in the parliament. In fact we have seen more lawlessness, no relief to the judiciary, unavailability of food and outrageous food prices, broken down road systems and major power shortages throughout the country.

How can you expect anything to get done in a country where most of the population has to worry about feeding itself everyday, because of lack of money or lack of food even if they have the money. How can you expect any business to function when there is no electricity for at least 8 hours a day in urban areas. How can you expect to produce enough wheat and rice to feed a population of 160 million when your farmers can not water their fields because of electricity shortage of 14-16 hours a day and no availability of diesel in rural areas. dscf0305_FiXUY_16003

The already sad affairs of state has gotten worse in the last 100 days of this democratically elected government, and I do not see any respite in the coming days. This government like the governments in the past has let down a whole nation and they of all should know that a desperate people do not forget.

The ouster of the General had raised hopes of a secular and democratic form of government in Pakistan. But the present scenario is nothing more than total chaos and political instability which isn’t a very good sign for the future of the country.

True Bijoy, The shedding of the uniform by the general had been a sign of hope and people had rallied behind the politicians hoping for a change, but sadly that is not happening and things are worse then they were.
