Although Pakistan is a small Islamic republic situated in south Asia it’s politics has major impacts on world affairs. Pakistan was carved out of the Hindu dominated Indian sub-continent in 1947 as an Islamic republic. It was created so Muslims of south Asia could have a land of their own, so they could have their freedom. Unfortunately since the departure of the British from the sub-continent Pakistani’s have not really seen a democracy, they are still to find out what real freedom is. Pakistan has mostly been ruled by military dictators or their stooges fraudulently elected to public office. Even today Pakistan is ruled by a government supposedly elected by popular vote, but the real rulers of the country is its military led by the charismatic and fortunately religiously liberal Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf, who captured power in a bloodless coup and holds the office of the president of the country.
Why would any one care about this stuff outside of Pakistan when there are so many countries in the world which are not democratic? This is a question the world at large needs to think very seriously about. Why? you would ask. Because when a country is plagued with political instability it in itself is very dangerous, but when that country is a big military might with nuclear weapons, things can get catastrophic over night.
Pakistan has been previously know to operate and support terrorist training camps, the head of Pakistan’s atomic program has been implicated on charges of distribution of nuclear technology to Libya, Iran and North Korea. Who is to say that the leaders in Pakistan will act rationally in a tough situation where they have to take a decision on the use of nuclear weapons. Forget responsibility of the leaders, God forbid what would happen if the helm of this instable very powerful military country with nuclear weapons are taken over by a radical islamist General in a coup? can you imagine the repercussions. This is not just a created senario or a theory this very little known fact is true, islamist generals have planned to do exactly the same thing on several occasions. The coup planned by Maj-Gen Zaheerul Islam Abbasi and Brigadier Mustansir Billah in the middle of the 90s had a strong religious motivation behind it, fueled through the anti-Soviet Afghan jihad.
The two officers had allegedly planned to storm the conference room where the formation commanders had assembled for their annual conference and seize or shoot them on the spot. Amateurishly planned, the attempted coup failed as Brigadier Billah was caught with his cache of arms hidden in the boot of his car at the Attock checkpost while on his way from Peshawar to Rawalpindi.
Earlier, in the late 80s, retired Maj-Gen Tajjamul Hussain attempted yet another coup, which was aborted before take-off. The main inspiration behind his plan was to rid the country of ‘corrupt’ civil and military personnel and impose an Islamic order.

God knows what would have happed if any of these or the numerous other attempts would have been successful. Pakistan needs a strong democracy which is sane and has the power of the people behind it, Pakistan needs to reign its military. The soldiers belong in their barracks and not in the country’s politics. The world has to help Pakistan become a democracy and shun the rule of dictators instead of supporting them. The situation in Pakistan is getting out of hand and if it is not handled tactfully it might just blow up in the faces of us all.
It pains me to see my neighbour bleed.
What is required by the Muslims is to adhere to the followings of Islam as that was the vision of Iqbal, who pioneered it. He clearly stated in ”Shikwa, Jawab ke Shikwa” that the plight of the Muslims has been brought by their own hands not any external force.
Pakistan in particular, Muslims in general and people around the world as well need to mend their ways and adhere to righteousness or this world of our is sure to doom.
Iqbal stated that (for the Muslims in particular):
”If you are loyal to Muhammad (PBUH) God will be yours
This world, even the Pen and the Book of God will be yours.”
We need to become deserving to hold the pen and the book for which we have to hold on to Muhammad (PBUH) and his teachings.
All i know is that God does not change people’s condition until they change themselves...
Whatever has to be done its we who have to do it... but yet we need to know wat should we do :(
It would be very nice if people just look up to the religious scripture and their problems vanish. The hard reality is different. I can say my feelings thus :-
Murmur ke jee raha hoo,
Murmur ke yaha main,
Tujhe yaad kar raha hoo,
Murmur ke yaha main;
Tu reh wahan salaamat,
Mere Khuda ban ke,
Tera Khwab bun raha hoo,
Murmur ke yaha main.
”In taza Khudaoun mein Bara sab se watan hai,
Parahan hai jo is ka wo mazhab ka Qafan hai.”
For Muslims Islam comes before any geographical boundaries.
We need to hold on to the teachings of our Leader (PBUH) to come out of our plight. And our scripture is not a book of prayers, in fact, it is a complete code of life. If the Muslims would know it for themselves, they would have been an exemplary nation in the world.
I talk abt those values, call them religious or democratic, through which Muslims were respectable people for centuries.
Our leaders are supposed to be the best from amongst us. When the most corrupt ple will rule us, wat else can we expect. In addition, when we as people or Mulims have no values in our personal lives, we cant discern between good and bad, how can our leader who is supoosed to be one of us be good and just person?
Power or leadership is a trust of God. Give it the name of democracy or watever. Government is rotten because ple are selfish in general. In fact it is a sign of Dooms Day that the worst of the people will be made our rulers... so i suspect the hour is near...
God knows the best.
When we say time is near it implies we are born near the end times generally as Prophet (PBUH) joined his two fingers and said ”I and the Hour are like this.”
This concept of time and space is beyound our comprehension, common ple, but ofcourse the only thing that we can do is to start from our ownselves, mend our ways, then educate our children and then so on ... communicate the message to the whole mankind. But it starts from our ownselves. After all, we are only answerable for ourselves not for wat is happeing in USA or Afghanistan since we have no practical way to help them.
Lets be good brother and understand why the Prophet (PBUH) used to cry for us so much...

You may not entirely believe me but I so totally get you desperation. One of my dear friends lives in Peshawar and even intends to join the military one day.
It was his birthday in July and I sent him a wish through Orkut... He didn’t reply for a few weeks and even when he did, it was one filled with panic and fear... Seeing this bright kid go from a bubbly teenager to stressed 20-something really pains and frightens me...
From whatever updates I get from him, it seems like Pakistan is trapped in a perpetual web of rioting and it cannot be any good for any of the neighboring countries either....
Afghanistan is already in turmoil and US already have their eyes set on making Iran the next target... With Pakistan lying the midst of all this as a US ally, one wonders if they aren’t being made to pay for their alliances...
As for democracy, I would really like to see, even a handful people striving for it and educating people about its benefits instead of trying to turn them against their rivals...
Democracy cannot be granted by anyone to anyone... It has to be brought about the people of the country from their own hard work and on their own terms...
As for the democracy that was bestowed, I say just look at Afghanistan and Iraq and see where they are at today!!
It pains me to see my neighbour bleed.
