Tamara, its true that the Global food crisis has an impact on the food crisis in Pakistan, but with the infrastructure and land, and the number of people practicing agriculture in Pakistan it might be acceptable if the prices were higher, it is certainly not acceptable that there is a shortage of Wheat.

Pakistan has no reason to be alarmed because of the impeding food crisis. South Asia and South East Asia had a bumper yield last year and the prediction for this year is great. Why do you think that there would be a food crisis? It is all about how you manage your produce and buffer stocks.

Thats the thing to be alarmed at, even despite bumper crops and recent harvesting of wheat Pakistan already has a shortage of flour when the next crop is still 9-10 months away.

Destitute and Tamara:

It is how you manage the food buffers and the food imports. This is an artificial crisis. I agree with Tamara to some extent. But Haiti, the poorest country in the world and whose hungry eat mudcakes is not a fit case study on why there is a crisis because of IMF imposed rules and US farm subsidies. Agreed that the Western farm subsidies are hurting the farmers of the poor countries the most, but Haiti is a gone case beyond repairs. Why not talk about Brazil?
