Yes and that’s when I guess Musharraf took a brave decision. That’s the way to deal with religious zealots and terrorists. Sadly ten policeman had to pay with their lives today in the suicide bomb blast.

This happened despite all the security in place for preventing something exactly like this. This is ridiculous. There is no security at all. Terrorists can strike anywhere at will. We can’t really blame the Australian cricket team having second thoughts on touring Pakistan.

It is being reported in news channels that police had prior information and intelligence about a suicide blast today, thats why the security was so tight and so many lives of security personnel were lost. There is no way of stopping a suicide bomber.

Sonu, we are safe nowhere and CA always raise such issues when they wish to hide their unwillingness to tour any of Indian sub-continental nation.

Anyways, terrorists know no religion; their heinous acts make me apprehensive about the values like brotherhood, tolerance, non-violence, and all. Power flows from the barrel of gun is the only language they understand.

I disagree but just a little. Yes, it is very hard but possible especially where you have prior intelligence. It is easier in say Israel to stop suicide bombings. But yea, I would agree with you to a large extent that it becomes particularly tough when the bombers are your own countrymen and look like you. We can say this because we know how suicide bombers work.

suicide bombers are a totally different breed of terrorists as you know well, dealing with them is much tougher then dealing with any other kind, and thats what they do take advantage of their situation, if they cant infiltrate a target, they set themselves off near the security personell, doing a great deal of damage.

this was another senseless bombing that killed the mental case bomber and the ten policemen. why on earth such people cannot be purged from humanity. the arrested brother of the lal masjid boss who tried to escape in a burkha should be hanged in public. glad that he was killed during the seize and recuse ops last year.

I am glad that you supported Musharraf’s decision to end the Lal Masjid seize by force. There were terrorists inside lead by an ultra-radical mullah. In India too a similar seize ended with a lot of lives being lost. That was in 1984 and it was the Indian Army who killed and arrested the terrorists in the Sikh Golden Temple in Amritsar. That cost the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi her life and ushered in a decade of bloody terrorism in Punjab with full support from the ISI of Pakistan. The terrorists who were inside the Lal Masjid too had ISI support just as the Taliban and al Qaida had and still has.

The ISI is a state within a state and it is above all, maybe even the president.

Suicide bombings will never end as long as terrorism is there. With this particular blast the terrorists have been able to send a very strong signal to the establishment. As the author mentioned, they had prior information that there might be a suicide attack, and it happened killing 10 policemen. They just relayed the message - “We can strike you anytime and always. You can’t do anything about it.”

Suicide bombing is the hardest to detect and stop because when someone is willing to blow themselves up you can’t possible stop them without them doing any damage.

Slowly but surely Pakistan is slipping the Afghanistan way. The situation in NWFP is grave with home grown Taliban ruling the entire area. These are dangerous times for Pakistan. The best thing now for the coalition government in Pakistan would be to not go tongs and hammer against Musharraf at this moment. The civilian government can fight terror better with Musharraf’s support. After all he still has the backing of the Army.

Yash, I would disagree with you on this, Musharraf is a dictator, and he is the cause of most of this religious fanaticism,he brought the mullahs to power to divide and conquer just like he learnt in the army, that is just backfiring and causing all this, as fast as he is gotten rid off half of these religious problems will go with him, thats just what I think.
